Growing up in Kabul, Afghanistan, life presented me with challenges that seemed insurmountable. Like many girls in my community, the prospect of leaving school to work as a maid loomed ominously over my future. But within me burned a flame of determination, a fierce resolve to defy the odds stacked against me.
Middle school was a turning point. Despite the hardships my family faced, I emerged as one of the brightest students in my class. It was during this time that fate intervened, connecting me with a sponsor through the Afghan Literacy Foundation. Their support became my lifeline, alleviating the burden on my family and allowing me to continue my education against all odds.
High school brought its own set of challenges. I walked two hours daily to and from school, braving the harsh realities of life without even the most basic necessities like a proper backpack or even shoes for that matter. Yet, through it all, the monthly stipend provided by my sponsor through ALF sustained my family and fueled my determination to succeed.
In 2021, I graduated with the highest honors, a testament to the transformative power of education and the unwavering support of individuals like you. Today, I stand on the threshold of a new chapter, having secured admission to Kabul University—a dream realized, thanks to your sponsorship.
But there’s another part of my story. In Afghanistan now , girls like me aren’t allowed to go to university. But the Afghan Literacy Foundation didn’t give up. They provided us with online learning opportunities, showing their persistence and dedication to supporting girls’ education.
My story proves that even one small act of kindness can change someone’s life forever. Your support gives hope to girls like me, helping us break barriers and make our dreams come true.
