Educate a Child.
Empower a Woman.
Strengthen a Nation.
Sponsor a Student
$40 – $70/month helps keep a child in school — either through family stipends or private school sponsorship.
Every Afghan child deserves the chance to learn, grow, and thrive.
But for many families, poverty and instability force children out of the classroom far too early.
When you sponsor a student, your gift helps cover either:
- Private school tuition, or
- Monthly stipends for families who might otherwise need their child to work.
You’re not just paying for school —
you’re giving a child the chance to stay on a path of hope, learning, and long-term success.
Sponsor woman’s learning
$550–$800/year gives a woman access to a digital literacy program — unlocking confidence, opportunity, and independence.
Millions of Afghan women and girls have been denied access to basic education.
But with your help, they can reclaim the right to read, write, and thrive.
When you support a woman’s learning journey, your gift provides:
- Access to an online, Dari-language literacy curriculum
- A tablet or phone, if needed
- Mentorship and guidance from a trained local facilitator
Many of these women are mothers, caregivers, and community leaders —
and when you educate a woman, you uplift an entire household.
You’re not just teaching literacy —
you’re giving her the power to navigate her world with dignity.
General Donation
Support the people and infrastructure behind every student’s success.
Your general donation helps power everything that makes this work possible — behind every student and sponsor is a committed team working every day in Afghanistan to keep things moving.
Your gift supports:
- Local staff who build relationships with families and schools
- On-the-ground teams who monitor attendance and student progress
- The safe, transparent flow of sponsorship funds
- School infrastructure improvements and supplies
- Emerging programs like vocational training and women’s learning hubs
Whether it’s a one-time gift or ongoing support, you’re helping us grow a system of trust, access, and long-term opportunity — one child, one family, one school at a time.
How it Works
We accomplish our mission by empowering children out of poverty through education. The Afghan Literacy Foundation’s main work is providing student sponsorships. Echoing the wisdom of the ages: “Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.” ALF operates as both a relief and development organization. We provide crucial financial support to families while fostering the development of children by mandating their attendance in school. Your sponsorship will empower a girl or boy to break free from forced marriage or labor and instead become a nurse, doctor, teacher, or anything their education empowers them to pursue.
Student sponsorships either support a child’s enrollment at one of our trusted private schools, or provide monthly stipends to their family to ensure they stay in school rather than working. Our team on the ground monitors attendance and progress to ensure continued engagement.
At this time, we match you with a student based on need. Once matched, you’ll receive a welcome email, a student profile, and periodic updates on their progress.
We currently sponsor students at several respected private schools across Afghanistan, including WA, BMB, BMG, and OSF. These schools have a track record of academic quality, and we’ve developed trusted relationships with their leadership.
Your gift gives a woman access to a digital literacy program in Dari. It supports access to the online curriculum, a device (tablet or phone if needed), and mentorship from a trained local facilitator.
General donations fund the vital infrastructure behind our programs — this includes salaries and rent for our local Afghan staff, school coordination, student tracking, and financial transfers. Funds may also support medical student sponsorships, new initiatives like solar panels or computer labs, and flexible response to local needs.
Yes. You can choose either option when donating to any of our campaigns. Most student sponsorships are monthly, but we also accept annual or one-time gifts.

Yes. The Afghan Literacy Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit in the U.S. All donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
We have a team in Afghanistan who verify school attendance, manage family relationships, and confirm all sponsored students remain enrolled. We also track every payment from sponsor to recipient with transparent internal oversight.
Sponsors receive a welcome email, a student profile, and periodic progress updates. General donors receive occasional email reports on program impact and growth.
We currently do not offer in-person visits due to safety constraints in Afghanistan. However, we are exploring virtual options in the future.
